Metro Woodcarving Weekend Class Description – 2024

Check in – 8:00 am both days. Brief meeting at 8:30 am. Classes – 9:00 am, lunch at noon, resume at 1:00 pm, continues till 5:00 pm –  3:00 pm on Sunday.

A. Decorative Kolrosing Class $40.00             Maura Corey             Cloquet, MN

Two practice projects will be available, and your final product on an 18 x 12” game board. Game instructions are available, named “NORSK”, I’ve created. Celtic, floral, geometric and wildlife design choices will be available for carving. If you need a kolrosing knife, you can borrow or purchase. Skill – All Levels. B. Lady Slippers Class              $30.00             Wes Spadgenske       Andover, MN

Students will have their choice of butternut and red cedar blanks. Basswood blanks will also be available for those who want to bring their painting materials and references. The project is about 9 inches tall, and all the parts will cost $20 per flower. Need a sharp knife and gouges. Sandpaper will be provided. Skill levels: Intermediate, class size: 12. Carving usable spoons. Students will curve usable eating and serving spoons from various hardwoods. We carve wet in green wood. Basic hand tools can be used. No special tools needed. Learn to do Old World carving by doing a practice piece and then a small project such as a set of coasters and holder and a small rolling pin, a cell phone holder or Christmas ornaments. Learn to carve a face in wood. Project starts with a blank of piece of wood and you carve the nose, eyes and mouth. Learn how to put hair and beard on your carved face. We will work on a Santa face. Cottonwood blanks will be glued together to carve the outside in the round into a whimsical house or your choice. We’ll separate the blank to hollow out the inside, then glue back together to finish the carving. Class: $45, skill level any carver, class size: 8 blanks cost: $25.

In-flight bird from a single continuous piece of white pine or aspen. All blanks are pre sliced by saw.
